Monday March 30th, 2015 Isaiah 42: 1-9
?a bruised reed he will not break, and a dimly burning wick he will not quench. (verse 3)
These verses talk about the servant bringing peace and justice to all, but what grabs my attention is how gentle he will be in doing so. When we think of justice, we may often think of police arresting felons, courthouses, and criminals being locked up. Likewise, the peacekeeping we see in the news and on TV comes in the form of men and women brandishing big weapons while forcibly making armies stand down, either that or countries making threats of even more violence.
Isaiah says that the Messiah will bring peace and justice by setting captives free, by not breaking lives down, but instead, mending them. That is a much better vision of peace, one that is more pleasant than the one we are used to. That really is the work of the Prince of Peace!
It is a refreshing thought in a violent world.
God, thank you for sending your Son to bring real peace into our lives. Amen. — TB
