Friday March 27th, 2015 Psalm 31: 9-16
But I trust in you, O LORD. (verse 14)
When at the Canadian National Exhibition last summer, I saw an amazing acrobat show. It included all kinds of balancing acts, including the performers hanging from the ceiling doing spectacular things. At one point, there were three women dangling from a chandelier-type object. High above us, the acrobats climbed up and down one another while holding onto each other’s feet and legs. There was many a time when the only thing keeping these women from crashing down to the floor was the other women precariously holding onto their feet.
I think about that now and about how much trust they must have in each other, trusting every day that they will not be let go; their partners will not let them fall to the ground. Basically, their health, safety and ultimately their lives are in the hands of their fellow acrobats. They must have amazing trust in one another.
If we can have that much trust in meager humans, think about how much more we can put all of our trust into our Almighty God. We can place our lives in God’s hands and know that we will always be safe. God will not let us go. God will never, ever let us come crashing to the ground.
God, help us put all of our trust in your hands. Amen. — TB
