Sacrifices

Does God want our sacrifices or not?

Sacrifices resemble the gift given after a heated argument. The gift is not necessarily needed. The gift is only valuable if it accurately represents the gift-giver’s feelings. If it comes across as merely a ritual and does not symbolize the regret, the gift makes the divide between the two worse.

God did not need the animals offered in sacrifice. Hebrews says it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. These sacrifices pointed to the once-for-all payment Jesus would make with his own blood when he died for our sins.

What mattered was the attitude of those making the sacrifices.

O God, help me be genuine in my attitude this day. Amen. — TT
