?he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God? (verse 20)
What an audacious thing to say, his faith grew as he gave glory to God. It gives me pause to think: do I give glory to God? I like to remind people that prayer is a conversation with God. Part of the give and take with God is to give glory to God through our praise and thanksgiving.
Do you thank God that you are able to get out of bed relatively pain free each morning? Many are wracked with pain. Do you thank God for your well-stocked refrigerator and cupboards? What a luxury. Do you thank God as you drag yourself into work each morning? Many aren’t able to find a job, let alone one in their field.
Do you praise God’s glory when you see the vast golden prairie, or a snow-capped mountain, or a serene northern lake? Do you praise God for creating and still creating our universe (it’s still expanding)? Do you praise God for humanity in all its various shades of colour and language and custom? Do you praise God for choosing you as a special daughter or son?
When we take our eyes off our list of “needs” and observe all God has done, our faith can’t help but grow.
Lord Jesus, nurture our faith as we give you our thanks and praise. Amen. — DAB
