I do not run aimlessly, nor do I box as though beating the air. (verse 26)
I have a confession to make. I love Zumba! It’s kind of like aerobics but with world music and funky dance steps. You also should know that I am not very coordinated. I’m always the first at the party to spill something. At Zumba though, that doesn’t much matter. The point is the workout is fun and a little like a dance party. After an hour I’ve exercised my heart and head, and laughed a little along the way.
The exercise, though purposeful, is fun. I am with people who encourage me and have a similar goal. We might not be all at the same level, but we all cheer one another on.
Our passage today reminds us of the gift we have in one another as the body of Christ, the church. “I do not run aimlessly, nor do I box as though beating the air.” We share God’s love as Christians because we are first given that same love. We have a purpose. We ‘exercise’ with purpose. We don’t do it alone either. We have people in our community exercising alongside us. Although we may each do it a little differently, we are called to encourage one another and work alongside each other.
God, thank you that you have called us to run with purpose a good race. Amen. — AA
