Dazzling White!

Maybe you have had a mountaintop moment. Have you been to an amazing worship service? Experienced the birth of a child? Taken a quiet walk in God’s stunning creation? I’m sure that you have had one or more of those moments in your life.

What happens when we have to come down from the mountaintop? I’m sure that the disciples who experienced the transfiguration of Jesus were a little afraid; the scripture uses the word terrified. I don’t know that they even wanted to leave. Didn’t they suggest building a few homes up there on the mountain?

The truth is that we do not live in a world where we travel from one mountaintop to the next. We know that we travel through the valleys as a part of our journey as well.

We all leave the mountaintop experiences. They do not last forever. My favourite thing to do when I am experiencing one of those high moments is that I try to be mindful of the experience. I try to take in the sights, sounds, smells of the event so that in the valleys of life I can remember that not all of our time is dark and bleak and that the mountaintop experiences will come again.

God, may we be mindful of the mountaintop times, especially when we are in the valleys. Amen. — AA
