On a recent reality show a young girl asked an older girl, “Would you rather date someone who is beautiful on the inside or the outside?” I appreciated her answer. “I would rather date someone beautiful on the inside because that makes them beautiful on the outside, too.”
In our psalm today we hear, “Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.” Have you ever been around someone who just oozes good stuff? They are someone you want to be around; you are drawn to them, like light catching your eye. I feel that this is like a glimpse of God’s light shining through. I think our job as fellow sojourners on the road is to point out the God light that manages to leak out of each of us.
Have you ever stopped to thank someone who gave a great smile just when it was needed? Have you told your young neighbour they have a fantastic laugh? Have you thanked an elder for their wisdom? These are all moments of God’s light shining through. Let’s begin to recognize and share them with each other.
God, help us to stop and recognize what you have been up to in our world. Help us to see your beauty in the gift of one another. Amen. — AA
