Sing with Joy

Several years ago the theme for our Vacation Bible School (VBS) was “Hearing Jesus in the Wilderness.” As part of this week, we spent time learning and singing songs that praised God for God’s wonderful gifts.

One of the songs we learned was “Go tell it on the Mountain.” Of course, the mountain was one of the many places Jesus would have gone to pray to God. As we worked on the song all week, the children learned it better with the result that they sang it better and better each day. On the final day, VBS was open for all of the parents and church members to hear the songs that the children learned. When we sang this particular song, it came across as if the children were actually praising God for what Jesus had done for us. They sang loudly and in chorus. Even today, I still hear some of children humming the tune.

Today’s psalm is like that VBS song; it is a song of praise to our God for all of God’s wonderful works. We should be reminded to take time to praise God whenever we can, just like our children did.

Thank you, Lord, for all you have provided for us. Amen. — RW
