Saturday January 24th, 2015 1 Corinthians 7:29-31
For the present form of this world is passing away. (verse 31)
No matter how many times I look over the verses of 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 and the verses preceding and following them, I really have difficulty comprehending what they are trying to say, and I find them perplexing. Perhaps this sometimes happens to you when reading passages from the Bible.
Even though it is a warm July day in 2014 as I write this meditation, by the time you read it the calendar will show it is January 2015. From experience, I know snow will be blanketing the ground and temperatures will be brisk! On Groundhog Day, early next month, Canadians across the country will be awaiting news about springtime’s arrival.
Would these winter months be a good time to take the opportunity to attend a Bible study group? If there is not a Bible study group at your church, are you being called to start one? Keep in mind, too, that various theological colleges and universities offer religion courses in which you can enroll.
God wants us, the children of God, to question, to learn, to understand. Are you ready to give it a go?
Lord God, please help us utilize the opportunities available to learn more about your word. Amen. — DD
