Thursday January 22nd, 2015 Jonah 3:1-5,10
So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD? (verse 3)
Jonah and the whale. Do you remember hearing this story from the Old Testament in Sunday school? I know I do.
This chapter and these particular verses appear in the Bible following that well-known story. In the Jonah and the whale story and also here, the story is told of Jonah’s stubbornness in not obeying God.
Jonah is given a second chance by God to preach to the people of Nineveh about changing their evil ways. Jonah does preach God’s word and he learned an important lesson about the Lord’s mercy and forgiveness. This time, Jonah got it right!
Sometimes in our own lives, it takes a couple of times until we follow the command of God. But God is patient, and is with us always?confident that we will eventually get it right, too!
Dear God, help us to follow your commands. Amen. — DD
