Tuesday January 6th, 2015 Epiphany of Our Lord Matthew 2:1-12
For we observed his star at its rising? (verse 2)
The stargazing by the wise men from the East is amazing. They looked for and saw the star. However, they were the only ones recorded who actually saw the star. No one in the court of Herod saw it, nor did anyone else. Why not? Either they just weren’t looking or if they did see it, they did not realize its significance.
Often in the living of our lives we miss the significance of what is holy around us. We miss it because of distractions of all kinds, or because we don’t look up with eyes to see, or we don’t have our hearts and minds open to catch the significance of what the events in our lives mean.
Following a star can of course bring unexpected changes of direction in our lives. We need to be as disciplined as the wise men so that we can see the star, determined as they to follow it in faith wherever it leads. We need to refuse to be distracted by those who want to lead us away from it. Then we will join the wise men and the baby in glorifying God in, with and through our lives.
Lord God, help us look, see the star, and follow in faith where Jesus Christ our Lord leads us. Amen. — JKU
