Sunday January 4th, 2015 2nd Sunday after Christmas John 1:1-18
?and we have seen his glory? (verse 14)
Only a few days ago many people were spending time surveying all the gifts they received. Now the world may have put away the tinsel and gone back to darkness and emptiness, but the church continues to celebrate Christmas.
Gift giving is an important ingredient of Christmas. But unlike those who are slaves to the commercialism of society, we know that the true gift of Christmas is the birth of the Christ child, the gift from God to us, the gift which is the true light of the world, allowing us to look toward the future with hope and a sense of anticipation.
Our new birth in Christ, in God’s love, grace and hope, is made possible by the true light born into the world on that first Christmas, the light of which John wrote, “And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.” (verse 14)
“And we have seen his glory.” Wow! That’s the dream and miracle of Christmas. That’s what being Christian is all about: Seeing God’s glory in our everyday life. Do you?
Lord God, help us always see the true gift of Christmas, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. — JKU
