Let Me Take A Selfie!

Who are we? If we turn the smart phone on ourselves we see an image. An image of God. That’s right! In the water and word at our Baptism, we received the grace of God, the Holy Spirit. Therefore, as we live our lives, we are a reflection of God. That seems like a huge task since we are all fallible human beings. How can we possibly handle that kind of responsibility?

The reality is that we really can’t. Not on our own. We need each other. We need God. So when we take a “selfie” (self-portrait), what we see in ourselves is all other Christians who are also marked by the promised Holy Spirit. Others, who like us have found the freedom that comes in following Christ, caring for God’s creation and our fellow human beings, living out their faith in words and deeds.

What we see in this selfie is God at work in human lives. People working together for the good of the gospel. It is powerful to realize that God is reflected in us.

Lord God, help me to see in myself the blessings of the Holy Spirit and give me the gift to see that same blessing in others, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. — JKU
