Tuesday December 23rd, 2014 Isaiah 61:10-62:3
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my whole being shall exult in my God. (verse 10a)
We’re all familiar with a happy dog, the dog that is so happy to see its owner that its tail wags hard enough to wiggle its whole body. This is the dog that simply can’t contain its joyful barks and gleeful pouncing. The dog’s whole body gets in on the expression of happiness, its whole being consumed by its rejoicing, and it momentarily forgets everything else.
How many of us can say we’ve felt the same way? Sure we get happy. We sometimes even go so far as ecstatic, but we rarely get our whole body into it. We contain our happiness to socially acceptable levels. If a dog can get that happy at the sight of its person, what should we be feeling at the thought of our God who is so much more? We don’t need to be afraid of being too jubilant. It’s okay to express our joy in God. God has done amazing things for us.
Awesome God, thank you for doing such amazing things for us. Help us to never be afraid to sing your praises. Amen. — CB
