Prove It

We’re a doubtful bunch. We’re so good at doubting that even children have predicted it. I did it, demanding my parents prove that there were no onions in the salad, or that my sweater wouldn’t make the other girls laugh at me. And my parents would patiently try to show me that, indeed, my sweater did not make me look lumpy. Sometimes my mom would get frustrated. Sometimes she’d make her huffing noise. “Carrie,” she’d say in a way I grew to recognize well. As patient as our parents are, God is so much more. Gideon doubts and God patiently delivers.

We may not be so demanding in our doubts and God may not be quite as obvious as with Gideon, but we are just as doubtful and God is still just as patient with us. God is always there, waiting for us to believe when we are ready to.

Patient God, thank you for sticking with us, even through our doubts. Amen. — CB
