"Let us rejoice and exult..." (verse 7a)
As I read these thrilling words my imagination shows me a crowd and a final victory. It’s like hearing the announcement at an overtime hockey game. He shoots! He scores! The crowd goes wild. And people rise with arms in the air from one end of the arena to the other. The home crowd waves their rejoicing and exultation. The host of heaven does the wave in praise of the Lamb.
The games of life can be very tough. There are losses. We struggle with ourselves and with one another. We take hits and do things we wish we hadn’t done. There is trouble and sometimes we are not even sure that we will make it through. In its own powerfully symbolic way, that is what the Book of Revelation is like. The struggles of life and faith go this way and then that, just like the teams racing back and forth across the ice.
The good news is that Jesus wins. Our captain holds nothing back. Trouble, darkness and evil do not last forever. We will get through it all. We live and worship and struggle together. And the time shall come when we shall rejoice and exult. We should be part of the wave. We have each other and our captain leads us to victory.
Lord of all hope, give us courage to struggle in confidence. Amen. — TKR
