I am not a “jump up and down, wave your arms” kind of guy where worship is concerned. I’m more the “stay the course, this is serious business” kind of guy. But sometimes, just sometimes, when I come across a psalm like this one, I want to dance and sing and celebrate. So today I want to invite you to a party.
Now maybe you don’t feel like a party today, and that’s okay. But first, read this psalm again, out loud, with some exuberance. Can you hear the party spirit? Look at the words: “Shout! Worship! Come! Know! Enter! Give thanks! Praise forever!”
Note the reason for the party: “God made us! We are God’s people! God is good! God’s love endures forever! God’s faithfulness continues through all generations.” These are good reasons for our lives to take on the flavour of a party. We have a lot to celebrate, despite experiencing disappointment or grief at times.
Our Saviour and King is throwing a party. We are invited. If we dont feel like it today, that’s okay. But if we do feel it, it’s okay to jump around.
Ruler of all that is, thank you for inviting each of us to your grand party through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen. — BJ
