Do Tell

It was well over a year after my grandmother passed away that we found it. There were rubber totes full of pictures, newspaper clippings, cards and tons of papers. it was in the sorting out of these totes that we found a brief history of my grandma’s family. We discovered a few things we did not know about our family. Who knew we were related to some interesting people, such as Sue Ellen from Dallas fame. I have to wonder how many other interesting pieces about Grandma’s life will never be known to us because she did not tell.

The psalmist declares the Lord’s knowledge of all that has been and will be. From God, nothing can be hidden, nothing is unknown. In this knowledge, God’s people are encouraged to pass along the stories of our journey of faith to the next generation; the times we have strayed and God waited for us to turn again to God; the times of blessing and the times of trial when God faihfully walked with us. In our telling and in our living we pass faith along to the next generation.

How many rubber totes of living faith are hidden in your closet? Bring them out and share.

Holy Lord, unstop our voices that we would tell of your faithfulness to us. Amen. — LH
