As a kid, I used to hide my dad’s hat when I saw him preparing to leave. It must have been annoying for him – especially when he was in a hurry. It was my way of telling him that I loved him and would miss him. It said a lot about my dad and our relationship. I miss my dad and appreciate everything he did for us kids!
When Jesus talks about all the ordinary folks whom God will bless, it says a lot about God. God chooses to be with us whom the world does not value. God is with us when we are hurting. God is with us when we try to live with integrity, be kind and generous. There is a special place in God’s heart for those who are innocent, who yearn for peace, and who are getting hurt because they do what is right. Jesus assures us that when we try our best to follow him in the challenges of life, we are on the right path.
O God, bless us, also. Bless us in our wants, sorrows, loneliness and ordinariness. Bless us when we try to be truthful, caring and sharing, when we do the right thing, work for unity, and when we pay dearly for following Jesus. Bless us and lead us on the right road. Amen. — ES
