Let’s Make a Deal

I’ve never been one to bargain hunt. Ever since I had my own money to spend, I just bought whatever I needed as soon as I saw it rather than walking around for the slight chance that another store may carry the same product at a lower price. But I was younger then, and irresponsible. Now that I’m older (and irresponsible), I still don’t bargain hunt (time is money, y’know). However, whenever I see a killer deal I quickly buy it, run out of the store like I stole it, yelling “Start the car!” to make my getaway (which gets me funny looks as I usually just drive myself).

Finding sales or deals is great because we get the same product at a lower cost to us. In some strange way, its value increases to us even though its intrinsic worth is the same.

So it is with God’s promise of a new covenant, one that would give the same forgiveness and salvation, but at a deal that really costs us nothing. Because humans have proved unable to fulfill their end of the deal, God decided to fulfill both ends solo. That kind of deal is just too good to ignore!

God, thank you for forgiving us our sin and bringing us into your kingdom. Amen. — NF
