Walk the Walk

One of the characteristics we value in a leader is integrity. Whether a political or social leader, a church or business leader, we appreciate their integrity and honesty. Even among our relationships with family, friends and neighbours, integrity gets high marks. When a person not only “talks the talk” but also “walks the walk” they are said to have an admirable personality trait.

Even the psalmist understood the value of good leadership. God was worthy of praise, not only because God is God, but because God did what God stood for. God, who loved justice, established justice. God, who asked others to act with fairness and equity, acted with fairness and equity. God’s character reflected what God wanted of those who lived in God’s kingdom. God, who promised to listen to the peoples’ cries, answered them. God, who commanded forgiveness, forgave. Because of God’s integrity, the people of Israel could give wholehearted praise to their King. They recognized the greatness of their King and worshipped.

When we recognize the great activity of God – when justice, mercy, equity and forgiving love are demonstrated among God’s people – we give praise to God. May God inspire us to act with justice and righteousness, equity and forgiveness.

We worship you, O God, because you act with greatness. Amen. — DB
