Monday October 13th, 2014 Exodus 32:1-14
Moses implored the Lord his God and said, "Oh Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?" (verse 11)
Moses, the person who led God’s people out of the wilderness, went up the mountain to talk with God. While he was there the people became impatient. They had not learned that God’s time was different than their time. So they built a golden calf to replace God.
Today people seem to need more and more things to replace the bounty from God. Are we any different than the people of Moses’ time? Are these material things any different than the golden calf in this story? Should God’s wrath burn against us as God had planned to inflict the children of Israel? Do we have an intercessor like Moses to plead with God to spare us?
We need to pray daily for all who are going against the Lord’s will and not following God’s commandments, ourselves included, asking that we and all people return to the Lord our God, in whom is life and salvation.
Gracious and loving God, thank you for being there for all people. Please be there for us as we help others return to your fold. Amen. — EEMS
