Sunday October 12th, 2014 18th Sunday after Pentecost Luke 17:11-19
He prostrated himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him. (verse 16a)
In our story today we see Jesus healing the 10 lepers. It is interesting to note that even though Jesus had healed all 10 of them, only one thought to come to Jesus and say thank you. How often do we receive something that can only come from God’s hands and forget to say thank you? It is very important we remember that when we receive something, no matter how big or small, we should say thank you to our giver. Do we remember to say thank you to the clerk in the grocery store? Do we remember to say thank you to the person who delivers our paper? Do we remember to say thank you to our child for a daily telephone call? Do we remember to say thank you to God from whom all things come?
The one leper in our story remembered to say thank you to his benefactor, the Lord, for the wonderful gift of being made whole again. May we be as thankful.
Thanks be to you, O God, for the bountiful mercies that you have given us. Amen. — EEMS
