Thanks be to God

As we read this morning’s devotion, many of us can look out our windowns and see the beautiful red leaves on the maple trees or on the ground. These leaves remind us of the maple syrup we will harvest in the spring when the farmers tap the trees, take the pails of sap to the fires, and watch carefully as the sap boils and becomes thicker. This beautiful tasting syrup is wonderful on pancakes, in baked beans, and in many other recipes in which maple syrup is used as a sweetener or something to give a different flavour to the food.

God who looks after all of us and tends to all of our needs, provides us with the abundance of maple syrup and so much more. God alone knows what we need to sustain ourselves. We, on the other hand, need to remember to say thank you every time we see those red leaves or use that maple syrup, or any other of God’s bounty.

Thank you, gracious God, for the abundance of what we need for our lives. Thank you for your help in sharing your bounty with others. Amen. — EEMS
