God’s Bounty

I was raised in a family that never had a lot of material goods and in which clothes were handed down from one person to another. (I have 46 cousins on my dad’s side of the family.” But we always had enough to eat, most of which came from the ground. We planted the seed in the spring, watched as the sun shone and the rain fell and thanks be to God, the seeds grew. We harvested in the fall and preserved the vegetables and fruit so that we would have food for the winter. We dug and picked potatoes and kept them in the root cellar. We also preserved the meat from the cattle, hogs and chickens that were grown on the land thanks to the bounty of our Lord who kept the pastures fertile.

What a different we see today as we look at the wealth of our country and think it is something that we have accomplished and something we deserve. We tend to forget where it actually comes from. It comes from our Lord who supplies us with what we need to keep us safe and healthy.

Thanks be to you, O God, for your bountiful goodness. Amen. — EEMS
