Who Does Jesus Want?

In this story of the wedding banquet we see a host who had invited many to his son’s wedding but none came. The host then sent his slaves out to remind the invitees of their invitation. The slaves were killed by those invited guests. The host in his anger had his soldiers burn their city and killed them all. Finally, he changed the venue and invited everyone on the streets to come in. One man who came to the banquet did not have the traditional wedding robe; the host had him cast into prison.

We can look at this story not as a wedding fest but as a story of how we are called to live the life of salvation that our Lord has given us. We are all called to be disciples, but like the wedding guests in the text, we have to decide whether we will live as a disciple or not. We know that in this day and age fewer people are following our Lord’s call. We need to work harder to get the message out.

Gracious and loving God, thank you for your son. By our lives may others hear and heed the call to come and follow you. Amen. — EEMS
