Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. (verse 4-5a)
I called a prospective confirmand, inviting her back to a class that I was beginning as their interim pastor. Because we were combining students from two congregations, there would have to be changes. She said the plan to use PD (professional development) days rather than weekly classes was “brilliant.”
OK. Maybe I made more of it than I should, but it had me rejoicing and obviously still encourages me. We usually think of gentleness as a gift of our seniors, who are too worn out to do more. But all can share in this gift of the Spirit, if we are open to God’s love.
Lord, keep me open to the gentleness of others, not so busy or pre-occupied that I miss graciousness when I hear it. Amen. — EB
