For Heaven’s Sake, Let it Go

It is easy in the summer to shed the extra clothes and get on with the fun or the work. Necessity seems to call for it. But letting go of our past seldom seems necessary. In fact, it seems to be just the other way around. We seem to have a need to carry our guilt and shame with us as a cross to bear, as if justification requires it.

Being a follower of Christ involves a lot of shedding. There’s a lot of talk about the works of darkness, but the first place progress needs to be made is in letting go of the weight of sin. Christ is ahead. To catch up to his love, we shed all that inhibits us in loving Christ and others.

Healing Lord, I let go today of yesterday's mistakes. They keep me stuck in myself. Free me to love, as you have loved me. Amen. — EB
