Monday September 15th, 2014 Ezekiel 2:8-3:11
He said to me, Mortal, eat this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it. Then I ate it; and in my mouth it was as sweet as honey. (verse 3)
One of the great privileges we have as God’s people, is the opportunity to read and study God’s Word. One of my favourite tasks as pastor is to lead a Bible study. I am always amazed where the discussion goes. Eight or nine pairs of eyes reading the text bring insights that I had never thought of. I may know some of the technical stuff, but the wisdom brought to the table humbles me.
Do you read the Bible regularly? I suppose I am preaching to the choir here, because you obviously do. But do you read more than the verse at the top of the page? Do you sit down with your Bible and read through a whole book in one sitting, say the Gospel of Matthew? Do you venture outside your comfort zone and plow through tough books like Ezekiel or Job?
How sweet the words. Bitter, too. Stand us up straight at times, as well.
Here’s a hint: before you read, always pray, “Lord, open my eyes to see what you would have me see.” It will amaze you.
Lord, open our hearts to your Word. Amen. — DAB
