Friday August 29th, 2014 Psalm 26;1-8
Vindicate me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering. (verse 1)
David was a man of God who was confident in God’s presence and constant care. David trusted God completely as he prayed for vindication and reminded God of how faithful he had been.
There is nothing worse than doing all the right things for the right reasons and having things fall apart. When this happens, all one wants to do is throw one’s hands up in the air and look toward heaven, which is what David is doing, but through a psalm.
We all have faced situations like David’s, where we have done everything right. We volunteered at the food bank, taught Sunday school, drove a cancer patient for treatment. Then it happens: a marriage breaks down, a loved one dies, we lose our job. Like David, we want to throw our hands up in the air and ask God to vindicate us.
Our life doesn’t always honour God as David did. Sometimes our trust in God wavers. We may not vocalize songs of thanksgiving or recount God’s marvellous deeds. We all fall short. Yet our awesome God continues to love and vindicate us with undeserving love.
Gracious God, help us to humbly walk in peace and confidence, knowing that no matter what the circumstances, you will always be by our side. Amen. — LD
