Trust the Work of God in Christ

We get our faith all wrong when we believe that we can actually earn favour with or acceptance by God through our own efforts. It is God who has restored us to a right relation with God, giving us the gift of joy and freedom to remain true and faithful to God’s call.

Our relationship with God is the fruit of the work of Christ in our lives, rather than our own work. Christ accomplished eveything for which the law was given. Since we are all made right in Christ, since we are all forgiven, we need to trust in the work of Christ and model the life of Christ here and now.

It’s not always easy to place our trust in God and not fall back onto our efforts to gain favour with God. When we do fall, we need to confess, not because God wants to punish us, but for our own sake, so that we can be honest about our lives and refocus on what God has already done for us by accepting, forgiving and loving us.

Loving, forgiving God, help us to trust in your grace, shown through the works of Christ and not through own own efforts. Amen. — LD
