Saturday July 26th, 2014 Romans 8:26-39
...nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (verse 39)
There is nothing in this world more powerful or important than the love of God. God comforts and builds us up when we are down, reins us in when we are headstrong and need that reality check, and supports us as we grow and challenge ourselves. God is there.
How often do we forget that fact? Instead of trusting in God, do you know someone who finds comfort in shopping, eating or perhaps collecting? Might it be you? And what are the walls that we build around us to protect us from the outside, walls that can be so thick that they don’t allow others to see in and to know us?
Beyond ourselves, there is the world around us and how we let events create more walls. “We live in a post 9/11 world,” has become a common expression; I have often found myself using it. There are definitely realities that we need to deal with and recognize, but how often do we let them overshadow our relationships and our trust in others? More walls.
Lord God, I know that there is no wall that I can build that will separate me from your love. Amen. — DR
