Saturday October 15th, 2016 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. (verses 14-15)
At church service on Sunday mornings, it is a joy to listen to the children at Children’s Time. These young children have a clear understanding of who Jesus is, of the fact that he loved us and continues to love and forgive us, and walks with us day by day. The children are learning at home, at Sunday school, and at worship. The lessons have become part of their lives and the very fabric of their being.
The letters to Timothy are written by the apostle Paul from his prison cell in Rome. Paul expects to die soon at the hands of his captors, and because of this is making sure that Timothy has the information and teaching that he needs to lead the Church that he has been called to serve. He exhorts Timothy to “continue in what you have learned?knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation.”
Loving God, help us to teach our children that you are the firm foundation on which to base their lives, now and always. Amen. — REJ
