The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" (verse 5)
A seed, though it appears lifeless, can bear an astounding yield when it is properly nurtured. We can quietly sow seeds wherever we are. Think of the many ways we can show our faith without even speaking. There are pictures or carvings of praying hands, as well as pictures like Enstrom’s Grace, showing an elderly peddler with head bowed for a mealtime prayer of thanksgiving. Ending our written forms of communication (letters, emails, tweets, etc.) with “Blessings,” “In His Name,” “Shalom” are statements of our faith. Wearing a necklace with a cross or a cross pin on our lapel are also subtle, wearable faith statements. These little things remind me of my faith, help me grow in my faith, and at times have sparked a faith conversation.
Today, look around your home, car and workplace. What quietly conveys your faith?
Lord, help me to increase my faith. Amen. — AAH
