Friday September 16th, 2016 Psalm 79:1-9
Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and forgive our sins, for your name's sake. (verse 9)
I will never forget the events of 9/11in the United States. I was at home when the phone rang. It was my dad wanting me to turn on the television. He said the Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington had been hit by planes in a planned terrorist attack.
I remember being glued to the television set for weeks. In fact, it was my sister at Thanksgiving who finally shut the television off for me. It was completely consuming me. How could God allow such horrible devastation to a city full of unsuspecting, innocent people? My faith was shattered.
Just as the faithful in Jerusalem cried out to God to not forsake them, we, too, cry out and ask God to protect us when our world is attacked. God does not want to destroy us. We are the ones who turn away from God.
We must remain steadfast in our faith. We must remain vigilant and be close to God so that evil cannot creep into our souls and take over.
Merciful God, pour out your love onto us and let us feel the strength of your unending grace. Amen. — JR
