We who read, “But God raised him from the dead,” are the folks God still lifts up and then sends out to help lift up others.
For two years, I worked with neglected and abused children, often overwhelmed by the horrors these children experienced. To keep sane, I would spend my days off backpacking in the mountains.
After a particularly trying week, while I was hiking, the suffering and pain of my little clients overwhelmed me. I cried out to the treetops, “God, I could use a little help down here!” Nearby birds stopped chirping, wondering what sort of intruder had come into their forest. I stood there, surprised at my outburst, when a peaceful message filled my mind. “But that’s why I put you there, to be my help.”
The next day, I was back at work, my responsibilities still quite challenging, but I was not so alone as before. God still uses folks like us to lift up the hurting children. Life may do its worst, but then, God still acts.
Our loving Father, we pray for all your sons and daughters, just as Jesus prayed for them in the Upper Room, to keep them all safe. Amen. — BB
