Thursday May 12th, 2016 Psalm 104:24-34, 35b
O LORD, how manifold are your works! (verse 24)
What a great time this is to live, when we as a human race are more technologically advanced than ever, when we have a world connected through a series of tubes at our fingertips, and when essentially, any convenience that we can think of can be had in the form of an app loaded onto our phones. I’d imagine, in a few years, going outside or even opening our eyes would become obsolete, and that we could experience life from just the comfort of our own homes.
No, actually, I don’t think that.
As much as I love technology and its advances for humankind, it can never be as advanced as God’s creation. As awe-inspiring as the power of a smartphone can be, it could never be as wondrous as the earth, its mountains and its seas. As mind-numbingly cool as it is to be able to talk face to face (over a screen) with someone on the other side of the planet, it will never replace the human connection and community that God has so blessed us with.
Amazing, that after all this time, the earth and all its creatures is still the most advanced technology ever created. How wondrous are God’s works!
God, may we revel in the beauty and wonder of your creation as we tend to and care for it, now and forever. Amen. — NF
