At our summer cottage, we always had the most complete and up-to-date first aid kit one could ever imagine! Every spring my mother did an inventory of it and re-stocked it for the summer. You see, my mother is a nurse. That is her vocation. And this is what nurses do. They make sure everyone is safe and comfortable.
Apostle Peter has been asked to talk about the good news, the new reality we are called to live into. His words are teaching words that encompass that expectation. And as he teaches, it appears he is learning new truths himself.
My friends, we are Christians on Mondays, too. We are Christians every day, wherever we go. May we live out the good news of Jesus in our everyday lives. May we live into God’s promises by doing the work for which God has gifted us. And may we embody our vocations earnestly and joyfully from the bottom of our hearts. For the good of all.
God of all vocations, today we thank you especially for nurses. You call us to ministry-to do good works, to heal and to preach. You lead us to encounters with folks different from us so that we get opportunities to witness and testify about your amazing love. Help us to be worthy of your trust. Amen. — EB
