Friday February 5th, 2016 2 Corinthians 3:12-4:2
And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. (verse 18)
I once created a long horizontal picture, an image of moving from one degree of glory to another. The left end of the picture was very dark. Then using vertical lines in a variety of light colours, almost like an aurora borealis, little by little the dark parts became less and less, until all was light, as glorious as the sun.
The idea behind the picture was that we are somewhere on that spectrum. We are already experiencing some of that light, that image of the Lord, that glory and freedom. But we also sometimes cling to the darkness, hiding behind the veil, with minds closed and hearts hard. We are fearful of the cost of freedom, which is about dying to self, even exposing shame. The Holy Spirit and circumstances push us to turn to God and pull us out from behind the veil to wider understanding and greater freedom to love.
Come, Holy Spirit, keep us open to being transformed more and more into the image of Christ. Amen. — HV
