Monday December 7th, 2015 Isaiah 40:1-11
Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. (verse 1)
Today’s scripture passage always makes me think of Handel’s Messiah. As I read this scripture the music runs through my head. It makes me happy to remember the music as I read. One of my favourite ways to prepare for the celebration of Christ’s birth is to attend a performance of the Messiah. It is extra special when we are able to join in the singing of some of the favourite pieces.
The joy and comfort this scripture and the music brings me is an important part of my preparation for Christ’s advent here on earth. Music is a good way to remember scripture and have a joyful sensory experience at the same time. For me, it is a very important part of worship. This Advent season is a great time to share the gift of music with others. Going to a church service or special concert of music is fun and comforting. It helps prepare us for Christ’s birth.
Comforting God, thank you for the wonderful gifts of scripture and of music. Amen. — KIGN
