Sunday January 10th, 2016 Baptism of Our Lord Luke 3:15-17,21-22
Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him? (verses 21-22)
Last year, I took a new position in the agency where I was working. Parts of the position made me uncomfortable, and I was hesitant about fulfilling those responsibilities. I felt that I didn’t have the knowledge or experience required to do well.
The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus after he was baptized. Once baptized, Jesus began his ministry in the world. As Christians, we know that the Holy Spirit is always with us. The Holy Spirit guides, assures, encourages and comforts us. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand our “job description.” As I have gone forth in ministry, whether teaching Sunday school, leading worship, organizing youth events, or heading to Papua New Guinea, and knowing that the Holy Spirit is with me, I have never doubted my abilities to rise to the task.
Thank you, Holy Spirit, for being my counselor, for bringing me wisdom and understanding, and for being with me each step of this journey. Amen. — BW
