Peanut butter and jam, salt and pepper, nachos and salsa, fires and cold days, blankets and beaches, trees and climbing, just a few examples of things that go together. Each is important. Each is unique and whole, enjoyable and fulfilling. Personally, I could live on peanut butter alone, prefer pepper to salt, enjoy a beach without a blanket, watch a fire without a cold day and see a tree without climbing it. Yet the balance of each of these pairs makes the other more valuable, more intense and more gratifying. We relate one to the other, we experience them together, and in many ways we think of them being successful because of one another. They are stronger together than they are apart.
Faith and action are the same. Our faith is what defines us. God’s love and action in our lives is what sustains us. God requires nothing. Yet without actions we are empty. We are called to live our faith in action, called to use the strength, courage and gifts we have been given.
Lord, sustainer of our faith, help us to use our faith, to expand your gift of grace and to share it with others through our words, teachings and most importantly, our actions. Help us use our faith in active ways to benefit the people you surround us with. Amen. — KNM
