Saturday June 6th, 2015 2 Corinthians 4:13-18
?we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen? (verse 18)
Science teaches us to draw conclusions based on measurable evidence–to quantify the world in order to learn about it. We trust only what we can see and our lives are much richer. We no longer believe that solar eclipses signal the end of the world, or that witches cause children to die of fever. Instead, we believe that eclipses are the result of the moon going between the earth and the sun, and that fevers come from viruses that spread from person to person. Evidence tells us that eclipses will pass and that viruses can strengthen immune systems.
But some things are beyond what science can tell us. God’s love cannot be weighed or measured. We do not know the colour of love or its sound. We do not know what size love is. Yet even though we have no direct evidence for God’s love, it still changes us. When we hear the message of God’s love in the stories of Jesus’ love and in the stories of the Holy Spirit working in people around the world, our lives are enriched. We can’t quantify the love in them, but that love touches our lives beyond number.
Invisible God, fill us with love that is beyond measure, so that we may live in your love forever. Amen. — KDH
