Friday January 9th, 2015 Psalm 29
The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. (verse 4)
“Listen to me.” “Are you listening to me?” Oh, how many times I said those words to my children. Sometimes in a loud voice and sometimes in a quiet voice. It seemed to me that they had “selective hearing” so changing the tone of my voice didn’t always work.
I sometimes wonder if God feels the same way. When we start to stress out over things, when we hit life’s hurdles, when we sink deep into depression, do we hear the Lord’s voice? We should, because God speaks to us. God speaks to our hearts. God wants us to know that God is with us when we go through the storms of life. God is with us when we are calling out for help. But are we listening? “May the LORD give strength to his people! May the LORD bless his people with peace!” (verse 11) If you are going through a difficult time, call out to God, but please remember to listen to God’s voice. Let God give you strength to get through your rough patch. Let God give you peace to carry on.
God of power and majesty, help us to listen to your voice when you speak to us. We thank you for your strength and peace. Amen. — MJ
