Active or passive

Was Jesus a victim or a king? When “Judas brought a detachment of soldiers together with police from the chief priests and the Pharisees,” (John 18:3) they probably thought they were in control of the situation. Then “Jesus said to them, ‘I am he,’ [and] they stepped back and fell to the ground.” (John 18:6) Even from the cross, he spoke like the king which Pilate’s inscription declared: “Woman, here is your son?Here is your mother?I am thirsty.” (verses 27-28) As a king, Jesus waged a battle on Good Friday against sin, death and the devil, and Jesus finished his battle.

Do we wonder the same thing about God? When evil things happen, is God a victim or a king? It looks like evil is in control. Don’t believe it. God’s strength is hidden for a time, but not forever.

What about us? Are we victims or are we sons and daughters of God? Are we active or passive? Through Jesus, we will finish the battle.
