Our group discovered that Lutherlyn Camp now has Wi-Fi available. We also discovered that this can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, we can share our camp experience quickly and easily on the Internet. On the other hand, there is a great temptation to spend a lot of time sharing our experience quickly and easily, resulting in that much less time with each other.
We live in a world that encourages everyone to seek personal recognition. We get the feeling that we have to be noticed by masses of people. And so we post on social media and look for other ways to set ourselves apart and be noticed. The world tells us that this is where our value lies.
This is quite a contrast to what our lesson for today emphasizes, which is that we are to be like Jesus, to emulate his attitude of humility, totally emptying ourselves of the desire for personal recognition and approval. What God values about us is not our standing amongst humans, but how well we follow Jesus’ example. It is for our humility that we will be rewarded, not our self-importance.
Lord, help me to resist allowing the world to dictate who I must be. Guide me in discovering who you want me to be and how I can best serve you. Amen. — LGR
