?how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God! (verse 14)
As children prepare for Halloween today, candy is likely foremost on their minds. This is true even for this older child-how much should I buy so that I have some of my favourite goodies left to enjoy? Our reading offers us a different type of goodie, a gift that will not spoil or stick in our throats or run out. We receive the promise of a time when God will make all things new, dry up our tears, bring us together and live with us. Right now, we can only imagine this. Yet, however we see it, we receive the promise that we can count on God. This is also a vision, a gift, for the present. It’s not the same as a small chocolate bar or a sour candy or a bag of chips. Still, it’s something we can keep in a safe place, savour and share. God is with us, now and always. You can count on it.
Help us always to worship you, O living God, for the good news of Jesus, the great high priest, sharing with us and all people the gift of life. Amen. — MHD
