Monday September 1st, 2014 Matthew 12:22-32
He knew what they were thinking and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand." (verse 25)
Satan and his forces already know what most of us intuitively realize when we think about it, you don’t advance your own cause by causing division and rivalries. Satan also knows that if he can divide us, he can more easily defeat us.
Jesus asserts that no nation, city or house divided against itself can survive for long. We have witnessed enough strife, genocide and civil wars between peoples and nations who cannot tolerate one another or live peaceably side by side. Strife, prejudice and division inevitably lead to disharmony, hostility and bitter fighting.
Satan only has power over us if we listen to his lies and give in to his will. Jesus tells us that there are no neutral parties in the world. We are either for Jesus or against him, for the kingdom of God or against it. Two kingdoms exist in opposition to one another: the kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness. To live in freedom from sinful desires and Satan’s oppression, our house must be occupied by Jesus, our Lord, Master and Saviour of our soul.
Lord Jesus, you are our hope, our refuge and our salvation. Be the ruler of my heart and the master of my home. Amen. — LD
