Wednesday August 29th, 2018 Isaiah 33:10-16
Those who walk righteously and speak uprightly, who despise the gain of oppression, who wave away a bribe instead of accepting it,..their food will be supplied, their water assured. (verses 15-16).
Sometimes in our Old Testament passages, it’s difficult to find the loving, compassionate God of the New Testament.
What can we make of this? Are those who are sinners damned for all eternity? Are those who don’t believe in God fated to burn?
We may feel at times that we are better than others because of our faith, education and success in life. I think that this passage is calling us to see those who are struggling, who don’t know of God’s love, and to help and acknowledge those in need.
As Christians, we are called upon to love one another and to share God’s love and forgiveness. When we help those who are oppressed, those who see no other way to survive than to commit crimes, when we help those in war-torn countries and bring refugees to Canada, we will be provided for in God’s kingdom.
God of compassion, be with us and guide us as we do your work in the world. Amen. — GB
