Wednesday August 8th, 2018 Isaiah 55:1-9
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. (verse 8)
God desires to draw all nations and peoples to God’s self. God cries out to them to come so that they might quench their thirst in life-giving waters. God calls out to them saying: Listen to me carefully and eat what is good for you to eat. Come to me and listen so that you may live.
It was for this reason that God selected David to bring God’s message to the nations and to be a witness to the people. God chose the people of Israel to be God’s chosen people. But somehow we do not believe that we can be God’s instruments to bring the nations into an everlasting relationship of love with the Lord our God, even though God has poured steadfast love upon us and has glorified us with love through Jesus Christ and our baptism into his life and death. Still, we do not see ourselves as God sees us. We see our shortcomings and failures. God sees in us God’s own loving children, empowered to do what we, on our own, are unable to accomplish.
God, give us eyes to see ourselves as your loving children with the power to love others even as you love us. Amen. — HF
